I love Pollan. :)
That's a great one! We've lived for the past five years in a dry area where most people don't have lawns, so now they look so unnatural and weird to me. Most people either have:
yards landscaped with local plants that thrive in low-water conditions
a yard full of weeds (better than waiting water!)
or a yard with artful rocks and pebbles.
I like the first option best! That's what we have, and it makes so many birds and animals come hang out!

Lawns like that remind me of golf courses or astro-turf ... I prefer something a bit less perfect with lots of wildflowers, shrubs and trees.
